At Horizon Christian School we love to feature our Hawks and their many and diverse hobbies and accomplishment. So, let’s get to the POINT!

Senior Spencer Dillree has been fencing for 10 years. He became interested after a week-long summer camp and within two-years was competing at local and regional tournaments. In 2014, at the age of 10, he became the Oregon State Champion. His passion, aptitude, and hard work led him from local and regional tournaments to nationals, where he has qualified each year since 2015.

Fencing was one of the first sports in the Olympics and there are three different weapons used including Epee, Foil or Saber. Spencer has specialized in Saber and points are scored when contact is made with the opponent. He is coached by Charles Randall with PDX Fencing who has coached the Mexican National Team and Portlander, Rebecca Ward, in the Olympics.

Spencer has been extremely dedicated to this year-round sport which has required three-hour daily practices, while at the same time through diligence and hard work, he has excelled academically. He has been so grateful to Horizon Christian High School and his teachers for their support and willingness to accommodate his travel schedules over the years.

His love for the sport, his teammates, and his extremely strong dedication and hard work, have afforded him the ability to travel and compete at a very high level. He was again the Oregon State Cadet Champion in 2018, has qualified twice for the All-American Fencing Team, and three times for the All-American Academic First Team which he made again several weeks ago.

Spencer signed his Letter of Intent to fence for the Division 1 Cardinals for the University of the Incarnate Word, in San Antonio, Texas. He has been awarded a very substantial athletic scholarship as well as a merit scholarship. Horizon Christian School could not be prouder of his hard work, both on and off the court, and we look forward to hearing of his future victories!

Way to go Spencer!
